Safe and Comfortable Treatment
Tooth pain is a sign that something is wrong, and many times, this pain can be remedied and the tooth restored with non-invasive treatment. We consider tooth extractions to be a last resort, but they are oftentimes necessary when other restorative measures have been unsuccessful. Common procedures at our office, tooth extractions, including wisdom tooth extractions, are comfortable and predictable, with the goal of maintaining or restoring the health of your mouth. We incorporate local anesthetic for a more relaxing experience and utilize modern tools and techniques to maximize the safety and effectiveness of tooth extractions.
When Are Tooth Extractions Necessary?
Tooth extractions may be recommended for a variety of reasons. They can range from a simple extraction for orthodontic treatment to more complex surgical extraction of impacted wisdom teeth. With cases of severe decay, disease, or infection, we perform tooth extractions to halt the spread of bacteria and infection to the rest of the body and into the bloodstream. Tooth extractions involving more serious matters are needed to preserve the health of surrounding teeth and oral health.
Common Reasons for Tooth Extractions
- Tooth decay or infection
- Replacing teeth with dental implants
- Gum (periodontal) disease
- Impaction (as with wisdom teeth)
- Tooth crowding/Orthodontics
- Severe oral trauma
The Tooth Extractions Process
Most tooth extractions are simple procedures, though they do require the expertise of an experienced dentist like B. Phan, D.D.S. After your mouth is numbed, the tooth is removed using modern dental tools that widen the tooth socket, then loosen and lift out the tooth. Partially erupted or impacted wisdom teeth need a more surgical approach to access the tooth below the gum tissue or bone. After your tooth extractions procedure, you may experience some pain and swelling. We will provide detailed after-care instructions at the end of your appointment and may recommend a follow-up visit to ensure the treatment site is healing correctly.
